Mechanarchy Bicycle Restorations
(Only Available Within 100 Km Radius of Clunes, Central Victoria, Australia)

At Mechanarchy, I purposefully set a limit on restoring only 8 bikes per year. I do this for two reasons, one is Environmental, and the other, is to ensure that I have sufficient time to spend on the main focus of Mechanarchy's existence, its Community involvement. The restored bikes I sell help to fund those other activities, which include bicycle donations to local people and organizations that need them, providing re-furbished bicycle spare parts to those that can't afford the high price of new parts and helping people get into cycling as their main means of transport through my Free bike program.
By buying a Mechanarchy Restored Bicycle, you’ll be helping in two ways. Firstly, you'll be helping to keep the Mechanarchy Community Programs, which have been running since 2009, ongoing. Secondly, you'll be making a very positive contribution to the environment. Why? I scour the second hand stores, antique and collectable shops and garage sales in order to locate as many bikes and spare parts as I can. I also search hard rubbish, because, unfortunately, many good bicycles and the spare parts they contain are simply wasted in profit hungry metal re-cycling or end up as Landfill.
On top of these important points however, you'll also be getting a safe, comfortable, reliable, practical, long lasting and affordable bicycle for your everyday transportation.
We use lots of ‘elbow grease’ to re-furbish and re-condition the best parts we can find and we minimize wherever possible the use of new parts. Because of our aim to reduce the amount of toxins entering the Environment, we do not re-chrome, which is why on occasions, you may find a blemish, but we believe that this adds to the uniqueness and character of your bicycle.
Your bike will when necessary, be fitted with new gear and brake cables / housings, brake pad’s, tyres, tubes, rim protectors and chain as these are essential safety items.
The restoration process includes the complete stripping down of your bike into its individual components, right down to the smallest bearing, bolt, nut and screw. We then meticulously clean every part using environmentally friendly degreasers and lots of manual elbow grease! All parts are fully inspected for wear and tear, and replaced if worn with either good condition used parts or, only when absolutely necessary, new parts.
The frame and forks are re-painted in a colour of your choice, from the choice of colours I happen to have in the workshop at that time!
All chrome parts are thoroughly de-rusted, cleaned and polished, spokes are checked for correct tension and the wheels are ‘trued’. Your bike is then fully assembled with fresh grease and lubricant and the gears and brakes are adjusted and tested for correct operation.
Vinyl and plastic parts are cleaned and sprayed with a high quality protectorant and finally, your new bike is fitted (only if you should require them) with a custom hand built Mechanarchy Pannier Rack and a pair of beautifully presented, high quality, hand made canvas pannier bags.
Ron D Swan panniers are designed and manufactured in Castlemaine, Victoria, from re-claimed and discarded canvas. They are, just like your bike, stylish, practical and Environmentally Conscious, and will provide you with lots of secure, waterproof carrying space.

And of course, there is a full 12 month written guarantee against faulty workmanship / parts.
