Simply Caring and Caring Simply

Here you'll find many stories of people from the Mechanarchy Local Community, whose actions speak louder than words. Mechanarchy only operates within 100 Km's from Clunes in Central Victoria, Australia, and these stories are of the people that work and live within that area, and their amazing generosity in donating various items to Mechanarchy to be recycled and re-used. Without their generosity, Mechanarchy could simply not continue the work that it does. A big thank you to all those listed below.

This collection (and a few more not in this photo) of old bikes were delivered by Clive, a retired plumber who is teaching kids how to turn old water heater boilers into other useful items. Clive is a local neighbour in the Dunach area. Most of these bikes were kids bikes and will be re-furbished and distributed free back into the Community, putting a smile on many a face. Thanks Clive!

This Bicycle, along with two others, were donated by 'Jim', a Local Farmer / Mechanic and all round good guy and Character!

After a new chain, brake and gear cables, complete strip down, frame clean / polish, de-gunk of all gears, re-lube of hubs, bottom bracket and forks, one of the Local Talbot Primary School Teachers came and picked it up.

Mechanarchy donated this bike to the School, and it ended up being used by the kids as a training aid to help them prepare for the Maryborough RACV Energy Breakthrough Competition. For a small Regional School, the kids did exceptionally well!

I get many calls and e-mails from all over Australia from people wanting to donate their old bikes to Mechanarchy. Whilst we greatly appreciate this, there is no way, given that I don't drive, that I can pick them up or afford to have them freighted. I will however endeavor to find out if you have a local donation point in your area and I'll let you and them know. If you live within 100 Km's of Clunes in Central Victoria, Australia however, and want to donate some old bikes, then please give me a call.
Shelley from Dingo Dreaming salvaged these three bikes from the Local Tip. Shelley lives (quite literally) with 4 purebred Australian Dingo's and is working to raise awareness of the Dingo's plight in Australia. Humans have almost totally destroyed this now 'Threatened' species. Like the story of the wolves in America, the White Settlers here, went about killing the dingo indiscriminantly, believing that it was a danger to their livestock.

Dingo's are highly intelligent animals, extremely agile and in all my meetings with them, are, like most wild animals, more afraid of us than we are of them. You'll soon be able to see a video clip of one of Shelley's Dingo's (Dawn) at the 'Dingo Dreaming' Web Site.

Thanks Shelley for the donations!

This bike was donated by Katarina from the Clunes Neighbourhood House. It belonged to her son who grew out of it. It had a thorough overhaul and service, new gear and brake cables, chain and rear derailleur, and I then donated it to the Talbot Primary School.

It was in pretty good condition when it was donated, with good tyres and seat, thanks Katarina!

These three bikes (upside down on the left) were recently donated by a local couple from Maryborough.

The frames are good and there are also many great spare parts that I'll be able to use in other Community projects.

Not only did they donate these bikes, but a host of other household goods that will be able to be stripped down and turned into useful items for other people. It is simply sensational when people do this, instead of taking stuff to the tip.

You've probably heard the expression from many people that 'they don't take shit from anyone'. I do, and I'll always come back for more.

Bon and Kat, some good friends up the road, dropped off this load of horse manure which will go into the fallow beds in the veggie patch in readiness for next years crop.

Real community can only come into existence when we start thinking about how we can help each other, without agenda's, expectations or desire for financial gain, instead, just simple mutual aid and respect.

Thanks guy's, the veggies will love this stuff, and you know you can drop around anytime and help yourself to some of the fruits!
